Urban population of Vietnam is growing fast

Results of the entire census of population and housing in 2009 by the General Statistics Department released today (21 / 7) showed that the urban population in Vietnam is growing fast.

In the last 10 years (1999-2009), Vietnam's population increased by 9.523 million, the average annual increase of 952 thousand people. There are three provinces with population size greater than 3 million people, which is City with 7.163 million, 6.452 million people in Hanoi, and Thanh Hoa is 3.401 million. In the province had a population of under 500,000 people is Bac Kan, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Kon Tum and Dac Nong.

Total population of Vietnam is 85,846,997 as of 1/4/2009, including the male 42,413,143 (up 49.4%) and 43,433,854 females (accounting for 50.6%). Survey results also reflect a reality, the urban population is growing fast.

Specifically, residents of urban areas is 25,436,896, accounting for 29.6% of the total national population. Meanwhile, the rural population was 60,410,101 persons, accounting for 70.4% of the total population. Thus, the urban population was growing at an average rate of 3.4% per year while this rate in rural areas is only 0.4% per year.

The main reasons causing the urban population increase is seen due to the expansion of the labor market impact of population has emigrated.

Migration period is the most powerful period 2004 - 2009 by the amount of export processing zones, industrial parks are open in many places. During this period, the volume of migration to local administration at district level increased with 275,000 people, 571,000 migrated up the same province, other provinces increased migration of 1.4 million people and other immigrants more than 1 million people in the region.

Do Protocols, entitled The General Statistics Office said that the urban population increased rapidly causing the pressure to ensure the living conditions of immigrants such as housing, employment, education, health, urban planning and environment.

Housing, survey results showed there was significant improvement. In households with housing, permanent housing households have 46.3%, semi-permanent houses occupied 37.9%, the lack of permanent housing accounts for 8.0% and 7.8% simple accounting.

The proportion of households having houses with an area less than 15m2 used after 10 years did not increase significantly.

In 1999 is 2.2% of households are living in the narrow area of the house in 2009 to less than 15m2 and this rate is 2.4%.

Meanwhile, the number of households using wide area of housing has increased faster than 60m2, in 1999 was 24.2% of households in 2009 and to this figure is 51.5%.

Housing area per capita reached the national average of 16.7 m2. Of which, urban area is 19.2 m2 and 15.7 m2 in the countryside is.

In education, the literacy rate of population aged 15 and over has increased rapidly, from 90.3% in 1999 to 94.0% in 2009. This result also shows that currently only less than 4 million who never go to school, accounting for 5.0% of the population from 5 years old.
